Taeniasis is a parasitic zoonotic disease caused by adult worms taenia siginata, taenia solium and taenia asiatica.
Taenia solium larval infection is called cysticercosis with symptoms of a lump (nodules) under the skin (subcutaneous cysticercosis).
Taenia solium larval infection in the central nervous system is called neurocysticercosis with the main symptoms of epilepsy.
Cause.
taenia siginata.
taenia solium.
taenia asiatica.
taenia solium larvae.
Transmission.
The sources of Taeniasis transmission are animals :
- Pig.
- Cows that contain tapeworm (cysticercus) larvae.
The source of transmission of cysticercosis is Taeniasis Solium patients whose feces contain eggs or tapeworm proglotids and pollute the environment. A person can be infected with tapeworms if eating meat containing larvae and not cooked until cooked. Cysticercosis occurs when taenia solium eggs are swallowed by humans. Cysticercosis is a dangerous disease and a health problem.
Clinical.
- The incubation period is 8-14 weeks.
- Some cases of Taeniasis do not cause symptoms (asymptomatic).
Clinical symptoms can arise due to irritation of the intestinal mucosa or toxins produced by worms. These symptoms, such as :
- Discomfort in the stomach.
- Nausea.
- Weak body.
- Decreased body weight.
- Loss of appetite.
- Headache.
- Constipation.
- Dizzy.
- Diarrhea.
- Pruritus ani.
In cysticercosis, tapeworm larvae nest in brain tissue resulting in epileptic seizures. Larvae can also nest in the subcutaneous, eye, muscle, heart, etc.
Diagnosis.
Anamnesis and examination of stool.
Microscopically :
- History of removing proglotid (segment) tapeworms when defecating or spontaneous.
- Stool examination found taenia worm eggs.
Treatment.
Praziquantel dose 5-10 mg / kg body weight single dose. How to give Prazikuantel :
- One day before Praziquantel treatment, patients are advised to consume soft foods without oil and fiber.
- At night the patient does not eat to empty the stomach.
- On an empty stomach, the patient is given Praziquantel.
- Two hours later MgSO4 was given 30 grams (adults) and 15 / 7.5 grams (Children).
- Patients may not eat until the first bowel movement.
- Some feces are put in bottles containing 5% -10% for examination of taenia worm eggs.
- Proglotids and scoleks were collected and stored in bottles containing 70% alcohol for morphological examination of identification of tapeworm species.
- Neurocysticercosis patients are referred to the hospital.
Prevention.
- Maintain environmental and personal cleanliness.
- Washing hands before eating and after defecating.
- Cook the meat until cooked.
- Keep cattle in cages.
