Down-Turner Syndrome was first described by Henry Turner in 1938. This genetic disease is a rare disease, one in two thousand five hundred female babies has this defect.
Characteristics of Down-Turner Syndrome :
- Not an infectious disease.
- Happens randomly.
- There is no cure.
- Not a generation disease.
- Gestational age is not the cause of Down-Turner Syndrome.
- Low life expectancy is caused by abnormal heart complications and diabetes.
- Growth hormone therapy can be given.
General characteristics of Down-Turner Syndrome patients :
- Neck wide and webbed.
- Short sized body.
- Swollen hands and feet.
- Wide and flat chest.
- Early menopause and cannot get pregnant.
CASE REPORT.
- Baby girl.
- G3 mother, 39 weeks.
- Born with a cesarean section due to rupture of membranes without signs of childbirth.
Physical examination at birth ➡
- Birth weight : 2,8 kg.
- Birth length : 44 cm.
- Lymphedema in the legs and arms.
- Jaundice.
- Phototherapy aged 2 days - 4 days.
Follow up.
- 1 month old : generalized hypotonia, physiotherapy.
- 10 months old : delay in psychomotor development (can only sit).
- 24 months old : starting to stand up, short posture, referred to a genetic clinic.
- 2 years 4 months old : Height 77 cm, body weight 10.15 kg, head circumference 43 cm.
- Looks dysmorphic : palpebral looks upward sloping, short neck.
- The results of blood karyotypic with cytogenetic banding G analysis showed 47, X, r (X), + 21
Discussion.
- This case report was made because there have not been found cases of dual monoclonal chromosome abnormalities that coincide with trisomy and structural abnormalities of the X chromosome.
- The clinical diagnosis of Down Syndrome is determined at birth in view of its phenotypic characteristics.
- Edema of the hands and feet, short posture leads to Down-Turner Syndrome.
- Not all dysmorphic features can be seen at birth.
Conclusion.
Short posture, delay in psychomotor development and presence of dysmorphic features need to be performed cytogenic test.
