Kissing is one form of expression of affection that is often done. However, transmission of Stomatitis can occur due to kissing.
Stomatitis indications in the form of oral cavity ulceration, include :
- Immune system deficiency.
- Cancer.
- Infection.
- Indigestion.
- Blood disorders.
- Side effects after taking certain drugs.
There are two conditions that are often found, namely :
- Recurrent Aftose Stomatitis : immunological.
- Herpetic stomatitis : occurs due to herpes simplex virus infection.
Recurrent Aftose Stomatitis.
Clinical symptoms :
- Oval or round ulcerations.
- Shallow.
- Clear outline.
- Reddish colored.
Ulceration is generally located in the non-keratinous part of the mouth, such as :
- Labial mucosa.
- Buccal mucosa.
- Ventral tongue.
Recurrent Aftosa Stomatitis will cause burning pain when there is movement in the ulcer area and it is difficult to chew food.
Recurrent Aftose Stomatitis has 3 clinical types, namely :
Recurrent Minor Aftosa Stomatitis ➡ the most common type.
Has the characteristics :
- Round or oval.
- Measuring 5-7 mm with an erythema border.
- Basically yellowish.
- Not in.
- Usually there are 1-5 ulcers.
- Can recover by itself after 3-7 days.
Recurrent Major Aftosa Stomatitis ➡ rarely found and larger ulcer sizes.
Has the characteristics :
- Ulcer size > 1 cm.
- Resembles a malignant ulcer.
- Hold for several months.
- Usually attacks the tongue and gingiva.
- Healing takes about 4-5 weeks.
- Leave scars after recovering.
Recurrent Herpetiform Aftosa Stomatitis ➡ very small and large in number.
Has the characteristics:
- Ulcer size 1-2 mm.
- Appears in the tens to hundreds.
- If treated immediately can recover after 7-14 days.
Infectious stomatitis.
Oral ulceration arises due to immune system disorders or drug side effects. Not contagious because it is not an infection condition.
Viral infections ➡ When the virus enters the body, the virus will continue to be in the body.
When the disease is controlled :
- The virus is latent / dormant.
- The virus can be active again.
- Can cause symptoms or not.
In the case of Herpetika Stomatitis, the herpes simplex virus can be reactivated due to several factors, including :
- Exposure to sunlight.
- Stress.
- Disease.
- Radiation.
- Menstruation.
- Immunosuppression conditions.
Active Herpetika stomatitis causes the patient's saliva to contain an active herpes simplex virus that can be transmitted.
Diagnosis.
Laboratory tests of IgG and IgM for Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) and Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) can determine which types of viruses are infecting, as well as the nature of acute (positive IgM) or chronic (positive IgG).
Other disease conditions that have the potential to be spread by kissing :
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection.
- Human papilloma virus (HPV) infection.
- Syphilis.
- Influenza.
- Upper respiratory tract infection.
In poor oral health conditions, such as caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, bacterial transmission can occur during kissing, but does not directly cause infection.
To prevent transmission of the disease while kissing, it is recommended :
- Make sure you do not have active oral cavity lesions or active respiratory disease.
- Keep the oral cavity clean.
